Privacy Policy

Beacon is a festival companion app that helps you discover events, find your crew in a crowd, and stay connected with the people you choose. Because Beacon works with your live location and lets you communicate with your crew, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we share it, and the rights you have over your data.

The short version. We only share your live location with the crew members you choose, and only while you have location sharing switched on. You can turn it off at any time. We never sell your data, and we never show your location to strangers or advertisers.

1. Who we are

Beacon (“Beacon”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by Odenbridge Technologies, a business registered in Nigeria under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (Company Registration No. 84374340). Under data protection law, we are the controller of your personal data. You can reach us about anything in this policy at privacy@getbeacon.live.

2. Data we collect

Crew & chat	Crews you create or join, and the messages, meeting points, and photos you send within them.	To provide group coordination and chat between crew members.
Saved events	Events you save to your watchlist.	To keep your saved events available across sessions.
Notifications	A device push token and your in-app notification history.	To send you relevant alerts (e.g. crew and safety notifications).
Referrals	Referral codes and the connection between a new user and the friend who invited them.	To operate the invite/referral feature.
Waitlist	An email address, if you sign up on our website.	To keep you updated about availability.
Technical	Basic device and diagnostic information generated when you use the app.	To keep the service secure, reliable, and working correctly.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to:

Provide the core service — accounts, crews, chat, event discovery, and live friend-finding.
Share your location with your chosen crew, only while sharing is enabled.
Send you notifications you have opted into, including safety alerts you or your crew trigger.
Keep Beacon secure and prevent abuse, fraud, and misuse.
Understand and improve how the app performs.

Where the UK GDPR / EU GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (to provide the app you asked for), your consent (for location sharing and push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests (to keep the service secure and improve it).

4. How location sharing works

Location is the heart of Beacon, so we want to be precise about it:

Your live location is only ever shared with members of a crew you have joined.
It is shared only while you have location sharing switched on. Turn it off and your live location stops being shared.
Your location is never shown to people outside your crew, and never to advertisers.
When you leave a crew, you stop sharing your location with its members.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf so that Beacon can function:

Google Firebase (Google Ireland / Google LLC) — authentication, database, storage, and hosting.
Expo — delivery of push notifications to your device.
Google Maps — to display maps within the app.
Other crew members — the profile, location (when enabled), and messages you choose to share within a crew are visible to that crew.

We may also disclose data where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or Beacon.

6. Data retention

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes. Location data is transient and is not retained as a long-term location history.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate data.
Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
Object to or restrict certain processing.
Withdraw consent (e.g. turn off location sharing or notifications) at any time.
Request a portable copy of your data.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@getbeacon.live. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

8. Children

Beacon is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We protect your data using industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and access controls on our database. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit who can access it.

10. International transfers

Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country, including in the United States, by our service providers. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the relevant Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
